1:72 Russian concrete fence P6V

What the fence does for a scene

A precast concrete fence is among the most ordinary things that can be put up around a factory, a barracks or a depot, and at the same time it helps a scene most. It gives the scene a boundary, so the setting does not end in an empty edge of the base, and it immediately tells anyone looking at the diorama about size: a fence has a familiar height, and it is by that height that the size of the vehicle beside it is judged. A continuous run of panels is, moreover, exactly the kind of background against which the silhouette of a vehicle stands out.

The real subject

This is a precast concrete fence of Russian pattern, designated P6Vm in the product name. Fences of this kind are assembled from ready-made concrete panels set between posts, they go up quickly, and in the countries of the former Eastern Bloc they still surround industrial and military compounds today. They suit a scene from the second half of the twentieth century up to the present day, so the set can be used with vehicles from various periods.

Building and painting tips

Wash the parts with lukewarm soapy water before painting and let them dry; choose the glue according to the material of the parts. Stand the panels up dry in a row and check that they are vertical and in one straight line, because a leaning fence is obvious at first glance. Do not paint concrete in a single shade: lay a light gray base, then let a dark wash run into the joints and, conversely, lighten the top edges. At the bottom add a deposit of mud and a greenish band that shows where water splashes up from the ground. A broken corner or a panel pushed out of line here and there gives the fence life.

Supply

The extent of the package is stated in the manufacturer's instructions. The base, models, paints and glue are supplied separately, unless stated otherwise.
