About product

StuG III Ausf. F in 1:72 scale, a finished collector model from Dragon

This product is not a kit. It is a finished model of the German assault gun Sturmgeschütz III in the Ausf. F version in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Dragon, assembled and painted at the factory. It is supplied in a state ready for display, and the finish refers to a machine deployed on the Eastern Front in 1942 with the unit designated Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 191.

The real subject

The Sturmgeschütz III was a tracked gun without a rotating turret, built on the chassis of the medium Panzer III tank. The weapon is housed in a fixed low superstructure: that lowers the silhouette of the vehicle, but it also limits the traverse, so the whole machine has to be turned onto a target. The Ausf. F version from 1942 meant a fundamental change of armament. The short 7.5 cm howitzer, intended for accompanying fire support, was replaced by a long gun of the same caliber with a substantially higher muzzle velocity. The machine thereby moved from the role of a support weapon to the role of an anti-tank weapon, and in this form the StuG III was produced in further versions until the end of the war.

How to handle a finished model

Take the model by the hull, not by the barrel, the fenders or other thin parts, as on models in a small scale those are the most sensitive places. Dust is best removed with a soft brush or a blower for optics, not with a cloth, which catches on protrusions. A closed display case is best, because factory matte finishes get dirty quickly in dust. Anyone who wants to can fine-tune the weathering with a wash or pigments of their own, but any intervention in the factory finish is irreversible: try it first on an inconspicuous place on the chassis.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors who want to fill out a display case without building and painting.
  • Those interested in German tracked equipment of the Second World War in a small scale.
  • Modelers looking for a reference piece alongside a kit of their own under way.
  • Buyers for whom 1:72 is a sensible compromise between detail and room in a display case.

The model is supplied finished and painted; it is not a kit. A display case and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is supplied finished, assembled and painted at the factory, ready to go straight into a display case.

Mainly in armament. Instead of the short 7.5 cm howitzer it was given a long gun of the same caliber, so the machine moved from the support role toward anti-tank use.

Yes, the weathering can be fine-tuned with a wash or pigments, but any intervention in the factory finish is irreversible. Try it first in a hidden place.

Reckon on obtaining a display case separately.
