The real subject

The T-34 is one of the best known tanks of the Second World War. It combined sloped armor, which raised the protection without added weight, a diesel engine and wide tracks with a low ground pressure, thanks to which the machine coped with mud and with snow. The design was at the same time simple to manufacture, which is why the T-34 was built in enormous numbers. The early machines carried a 76 mm gun, the later ones were given a roomier turret with an 85 mm gun. Which version of the tank the kit corresponds to is stated in the manufacturer's instructions and on the packaging.

The kit in 1:72 scale

The scale of 1:72 is popular among collectors of armor because the finished model takes up no more than the palm of a hand and a whole collection fits into one display case. At the same time it makes smaller demands on the finish than the large scales do: small deviations in the color or in the grading of the shadows do not show so much on a small surface. The number of parts, the contents of the package and the recommended procedure are stated in the manufacturer's instructions.

Building and painting tips

• Assemble and paint the running gear and the tracks before you close up the hull.
• Fit the parts dry first and only then glue them.
• Apply the paint in thin layers; a heavy coat floods the fine relief.
• Pick out the recesses and the rivets with a darker glaze and the edges with a light dry brush.
• Add dust and mud with pigments on the running gear, on the tracks and on the fenders.
