A photo-etched set of seat belts in 1:72 scale from the Polish maker Yahu Models. It is not a model of an aircraft but an addition for the cockpit. The belts are etched from thin steel sheet and are supplied pre-painted: they only need taking out of the fret, shaping and seating in the seat. Fine printing with a slightly used look replaces the lengthy painting of miniature clips, buckles and hardware.
On aircraft models the cockpit is the interior detail most looked at, especially when the canopy is glued in the slid-back position. A seat in bare plastic looks unfinished there, and seat belts are the simplest way to put that right. This version follows the practice of the Japanese Army Air Force during the Second World War, so it suits the fighter and light bomber types used by the ground army. The equipment of the Japanese Army Air Force and the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service differed, which is why the manufacturer offers both variants separately; for a period-accurate build it is worth reaching for the right one.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel or photo-etch scissors on a hard surface rather than by breaking them out. Smooth-jawed tweezers and a bender or the edge of a steel ruler serve for shaping; the sheet is thin and repeated bending in one place can break it. They are glued with cyanoacrylate in a minimal amount applied on a pin, or with a glue for photo-etched parts. Let the belts drape naturally over the edge of the seat and ripple them slightly, as taut straight belts look like sheet metal. Any evening out of the shade can be handled by a light wash.
The set is an addition to a model, not a kit of an aircraft. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
