When to reach for size 1

• Details and small areas: instruments and the instrument panel, handles, latches, loops, small equipment.
• Equipment and figure accessories: buckles, straps, faces, small parts of a uniform.
• Touch-ups: repairing a spot where paint has chipped or masking has bled, without touching the surroundings.
• Spot effects: targeted paint chips, rust at a rivet, small stains.
• Where it no longer makes sense: for a continuous coat over a larger area size 1 is too small, as it does not hold enough paint and the area keeps visible transitions. A higher number (size 6, for example) is better for that.

Synthetic fiber and why it is an advantage

The bundle is of synthetic fiber, which is resistant to solvents. Unlike natural hair, which aggressive thinners dry out and break down over time, synthetic fiber takes acrylics, enamels and oils and therefore also suits washes, filters and clear coats. The manufacturer emphasizes its good spring and its ability to pick up paint.

Brush care, and why it pays off

• Clean it right after use, and with the matching thinner for the paint you worked with (water or acrylic cleaner for acrylics, mineral spirits or thinner for enamels and oils). Dried paint at the ferrule ruins a brush irreversibly.
• Never store a brush tip down in thinner or in water: the fibers bend permanently and the tip is lost.
• Do not press: painting is done with the tip, not with force. A bundle crushed at the ferrule will never straighten again.
• Dry it flat, smooth the tip into shape and let the brush dry freely; store it tip up or lying down.
