An accessory for painting a model in 1:32 scale, not the model itself. The masks are cut to the outlines of the subject, so measuring out and building a line from strips of crepe tape both fall away. The extent of the set, the number of pieces and the material of the carrier are not stated here, so go by the instructions supplied in the package.
The Mitsubishi A5M, under the Allied code name Claude, was a carrier-based fighter of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service of the second half of the 1930s and one of the first all-metal monoplanes in that role. A characteristic feature is the fixed landing gear with aerodynamic wheel spats and a radial engine in a narrow cowling. The A5M2b version received a reworked power unit, and on some machines an enclosed cockpit canopy was tried, which did not prove itself in service and gave way back to the open arrangement. The fixed landing gear with wheel spats matters for masking, because these are rounded shapes on which tape holds worst.
The foundation of good masking is a sound base. On bare plastic or on filler the paint takes unevenly and the mask tears it away at the edge, so always lay down a thin primer coat first and let it cure. Only once the mask is settled on that, run a burnisher or a blunt stick around the edge so that it bears along its whole length. Then seal the edge with a very light coat of the shade beneath the mask, which closes off the path for bleed. Only then lay on the second color. On the rounded wheel spats lead the mask in sections and do not try to stretch it into the curve by force, as overstretched film always springs back and lifts.
