1:12 Suzuki GSX-RR '20 Front Fork Set

Suzuki GSX-RR 20 Front Fork Set in 1:12 scale (Tamiya)

This is an add-on set for a model of the Suzuki GSX-RR racing motorcycle of the 2020 season in 1:12 scale, not the model itself. The set replaces the front fork from the ordinary kit with a more faithful version that better captures the look of the sliders and the fork legs. The exact contents of the package and the materials used are stated on the packaging. The set is made for building a model of the matching machine in this scale, not for other types of motorcycle.

The real subject

The GSX-RR is a prototype racing motorcycle of the premier class of the road racing world championship, powered by an inline four and built purely for racing. The front suspension consists of a large-diameter upside-down telescopic fork with markedly polished legs, which is among the most visually striking features of the whole machine. That is exactly why it is worth paying it particular attention on models in 1:12 scale.

Building tips

Try the parts dry before gluing and check that the fork sits in the frame and against the brake calipers at the right height and angle; the front wheel should stand square and the axle be parallel with the handlebars. Leave the polished surfaces worked as little as possible so that they keep their shine, and do not combine any surface treatment with aggressive thinners. Set the sliders and the rubber gaiters apart in a more matte shade, and only then will the contrast against the glossy leg come into its own. Where possible, fit the fork only after the finish on the fairing is done, so that it does not get scratched.
