This is a large-format printed sheet from Kits-World on which you stand a finished model. It is neither a kit nor a decal and nothing is stuck on from it: the base serves as the surface under a model in a display case, on an exhibition table or when photographing. The motif matches the paved surface of RAF Marham air base in Norfolk as it has been from 2018 onwards.
The print works with the division and the coloring of the real surface of the station: the joints between panels, the shades of the paving and the traces of use. Thanks to that the model does not stand on a bare board but on a surface that has a texture of its own and breaks up an empty background. The period given in the name is a practical guide: the base will fit the types that appeared at the station within this stretch of time and will not contradict the vintage of the kit you choose.
In 1:48 scale a side of 675 mm corresponds to roughly 32 meters of real surface, so the square of the sheet takes in about 32 x 32 meters of airfield. That is enough for one stand together with its surroundings: a normal single-engine fighter in 1:48 is about thirty to thirty-five centimeters long, so a free band is left around it for figures, vehicles or simply for a quiet background. In a display case count on a shelf at least seventy centimeters wide and deep; on a shallower shelf the sheet will overhang the edge.
