Sapelly 1 x 3 x 1000 mm is a pack of ten thin narrow strips of dark brown African wood — material for fine deck planks, edging and small details.
Responsibility details are not available.
The pack holds ten strips with a section of 1 x 3 mm and a length of one meter. It is the finest profile of the sapelli range: a thickness of one millimeter and a width of three millimeters match the small planks and strips that read individually on a finished model. Sapelli is a hard African wood of a mahogany character which, according to the name, holds a dark brown tone and has a dense striped grain.
A thin strip bends easily, but just as easily cracks at a knot or at a sharp change in the grain. Before bending, moisten it briefly and warm it, then let it cool in shape. Cut with a sharp scalpel by drawing, not by pressing, and rather in several light passes — a single hard cut will break a thin profile. For gluing, little PVA glue is enough, because any excess on so thin a part would be pressed out onto the visible face; edges and joins will also take a drop of super glue. Sand only with very fine paper and with a light touch, since a thickness of one millimeter goes down fast. Seal the surface with matte varnish, wax or oil.
For builders of wooden ship models who are finishing decks and details and want a dark contrast against pale wood, and for modelers whose small material from a kit has run out.
The strips are supplied in their natural state, unworked and without any surface finish. Glue, abrasives and varnish are not included in the package.
