A printed scenic base 450 x 450 mm for models in 1:72 scale. It shows the surface of Aalborg air base, also given under its home designation Flyvestation Aalborg, across the span of years 1983 to 2001. It is neither a kit nor a decal. A finished model is stood on the base and the scene is done, with no filling, plaster or drying.
The motif is tied to the Royal Danish Air Force and to eighteen years of its service. A wider span of time is practical for a modeler: several machines from different years can be built for the same base in turn, without your having to look for a new one each time. For a collection focused on Northern European air forces it is a base that will be used again and again.
A Nordic climate does something different to operational surfaces than a dry one. Damp lingers, a greenish film forms at the less used edges of areas and the edges of joints darken unevenly. This cold character, shifted toward green and gray, is worth carrying over to the model as well. Classic sandy dust does not belong here. More convincing is a gentle darkening in the panel lines, a slightly faded shade of skin and a cleaner but not gloss surface. Avoid rusty tones too, in places where nothing holds them. A cold scene and warm rust contradict each other and the scene crumbles into two halves.
This is a printed scenic base, not a kit. The model and the accessories are not part of the delivery.
