About product

Mi-24P in Hungarian Service, NATO Finish, Decals in 1:48 (HAD models)

A decal sheet from the Hungarian manufacturer HAD models for a model of the Mi-24 attack helicopter in the P version. It is aimed at machines in Hungarian service in the later gray finish, which replaced the older multi-color camouflage. It is neither a kit nor a part: the decals are applied to a finished painted model and determine its markings. In 1:48 scale this is a rewarding combination, because a model of the helicopter has a large fuselage and the markings read well on it.

The real subject

The Mi-24 is a heavy attack helicopter with an armored forward section, cockpits arranged in tandem and a cargo compartment in the rear part of the fuselage. The P version differs from the widespread V version above all in its armament: instead of a trainable turret under the nose it carries a fixed twin-barrel 30 mm cannon on the starboard side of the fuselage. This feature is the most conspicuous external distinguishing mark, and it is worth using it to confirm that you really are building the P version. Hungarian machines went over to a uniform gray finish once the new standards were introduced, and matching, less contrasting markings belong with it.

Application tips

The fuselage of the helicopter has many rounded and intricate surfaces, which is the hardest task there is for decals. The surface must be glossy and dry. Settle the decal on a moistened spot and adjust its position with a soft brush, not with a finger. Apply the softener to the curves drop by drop and let it work; do not run a brush across the decal until it has dried, or it will crumple. Where a decal runs across a pronounced edge or a panel line, it helps to score the film lightly along the line with the tip of a scalpel once it has dried and to brush the softener over again. Gray finishes have little contrast, which is why a final matte or semi-gloss varnish is essential: it unifies the surface and suppresses glossy edges.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of Mi-24 models in 1:48 scale
  • Those interested in the hardware of the Hungarian Air Force in the later period
  • Modelers who want the gray finish instead of the classic camouflage
  • Builders of the P version with the side-mounted cannon

This is a stand-alone decal sheet. The kit, paints and varnishes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yes. The P version carries a fixed twin-barrel cannon on the starboard side of the fuselage, whereas the V version has a trainable turret under the nose. Confirm which version you are building before buying.

It is not. This is a stand-alone decal sheet for a model in 1:48 scale that has already been built and painted.

On a gloss surface and with the help of a softener applied drop by drop. Do not touch the decal while it dries. If it runs across a pronounced edge, it can be scored lightly along the line once dry and the softener brushed over again.

You will find the exact contents in the instructions enclosed with the sheet. The sheet concerns Mi-24P machines in Hungarian service in the gray finish.
