Execution and material
Layered winter clothing is rewarding for a resin casting: the material holds the bulk of the jacket, the collar, the gloves and the small items of equipment, which would lose their sharpness in injection-molded plastic. The casting is supplied on casting blocks and with mold seam lines that are cleaned up before building.
Building and painting tips
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap first, so that the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw, level the faces with a file and sand the resin wet with protection for your breathing. Glue with super glue (cyanoacrylate) and fill the seams with filler. After a thin primer, lay the base shades down. With a winter scene it pays to lighten and cool the colors slightly — warm shades look alien in a snowy composition. Deepen the folds with a brown-gray wash and bring the edges out with a dry brush. You can soil the lower edges of the trousers and the footwear with a pigment with a hint of gray, as though the figure had been moving through slushy ground. A matte clear coat at the end; leave the leather parts and the metal buckles slightly glossy.
