An engine cover with a tarpaulin for the Fiat 508 in 1:35 scale from PANZER ART. A resin replacement part for a model of the Italian light car, not a kit of the vehicle.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin accessory for building the Fiat 508 light car in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle but a replacement part: an engine cover with a cast tarpaulin thrown over the engine compartment. The casting replaces the original plastic hood and brings soft fabric with sag and folds to the model, the kind that cannot be formed in injection molded plastic.
The Fiat 508 belongs among the light cars that were commonly covered with a tarpaulin in field conditions — because of dust, rain and cold. On a model this detail reveals the situation at once: the car stands parked up, waiting for its crew or part of the support area. The accessory also conveniently hides the engine compartment, the building up of which would otherwise cost hours of work.
Wash the casting in lukewarm water with dish soap first — the mold release agent otherwise prevents the paint from adhering. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a disc and do not break it; level the cut with a file and fine paper, ideally wet and with your breathing protected. Join it with super glue (cyanoacrylate), as plastic cement does not work here. Apply a primer before painting. Keep the tarpaulin in a different shade and a different degree of gloss from the painted metal of the body: matte, slightly faded fabric against a smooth body is the most reliable way to tell the reader of the model that it is cloth. Support the folds with a dark wash, the raised edges lightly with a dry brush, and dust the lower areas with pigment.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and the model of the vehicle is not part of the package. Glue, paints and other accessories are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
