A set of J79 engine exhaust nozzles for the F-4B/C/D Phantom II in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Wolfpack is a resin detailing accessory that replaces the plastic nozzles on the tail of the model. It is not a kit of the aircraft. The set is intended for the Academy kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This detailing set from the manufacturer Wolfpack replaces the plastic exhaust nozzles of both engines on a part-built model of the F-4B, F-4C or F-4D Phantom II in 1:48 scale. The resin castings have thinner walls and more cleanly drawn inner surfaces than a split injection mold allows, so the view into the nozzle from behind comes across more faithfully and the lengthy filling and sanding of the longitudinal seams inside the duct falls away. The diameters and the seats match the Academy kit.
Note: this is not a model of an aircraft. It is an accessory fitted into a kit bought separately.
The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II was a two-seat twin-engine supersonic aircraft that served as a fighter, an attack and a reconnaissance machine. It was powered by General Electric J79 engines with afterburners, mounted close together in the rear part of the fuselage. The F-4B version was a naval one, while the F-4C and F-4D were operated by the US Air Force. The pair of nozzles on the tail is among the most conspicuous details of the whole aircraft and tends to be clearly visible on the model, because nothing covers it.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water, so that the remains of the mold release agent are removed. Without this step neither glue nor paint will hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, and never break them off. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), as an ordinary cement for plastic models has no effect on resin. Finish sanding wet and with respiratory protection, as resin dust must not be inhaled. Before painting, apply a primer, otherwise the paint holds badly on a smooth casting. The nozzles are usually sprayed in shades of heat-stained and stressed metal, the transitions are brought out with a thin wash and the trailing edge is darkened slightly.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The set is supplied unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
