The AN/AAQ-28 targeting pod in 1:144 scale is a resin accessory from Rise144models. It is not a model of an aircraft but a standalone underwing store for completing a finished kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A small resin accessory for builders of modern combat aircraft in a small scale. It adds to a model the underwing AN/AAQ-28 targeting pod, known under the name Litening. The package contains only the pod, not the aircraft or any part of it. At 1:144 scale cast resin holds a cleaner shape of the lens heads and finer surface detail than can be achieved with injected plastic.
The AN/AAQ-28 is an underwing targeting and reconnaissance pod with an electro-optical head. It combines a thermal and a television channel with a laser rangefinder and designator, which makes it possible to search for targets and to guide laser-guided munitions. It is carried by a number of Western tactical aircraft and has seen several generations in service, which differ above all in the design of the front optical head. On a model the pod is conspicuous precisely for that head and for the cylindrical body hung on a pylon.
Separate the part from the casting block with a fine saw or a sharp knife, never with pliers. Before gluing, wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water so that the remains of mold release agent are removed. It is bonded exclusively with super glue. Limit sanding to the mating surface, or you will wipe the detail away. Before painting, apply a thin primer. It is a good idea to finish the optical head last, in a dark glossy shade or with a drop of clear varnish, so that it looks like glass. The rest of the store tends to be in a light gray or white shade according to the particular operator.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit of the aircraft, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
