This is a resin casting of the fantasy character Jen on a creature called a Landstrider in 1:24 scale. Resin holds sharp edges and fine surfaces considerably better than injection-molded plastic, so the casting can be made to yield details of the face, the textiles and the fur that would be lost in plastic. The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted and is intended for modelers who already have experience of resin and of painting figures with a brush.
With figures, 1:24 scale corresponds to roughly the seventy-millimeter range, that is the size at which it is worth painting the eyes, the transitions of skin shade and the texture of cloth. The subject is fantasy, a rider on a long-legged creature, and it suits a base of its own just as well as a smaller cabinet scene.
First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, so that any mold release residue comes off the surface. Without that the primer will not hold and the paintwork will later peel. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and sand the surfaces wet and with respiratory protection. Glue the joints with cyanoacrylate glue and fill any larger gaps with two-part filler, then sand them down. Next comes a thin coat of primer in two passes, so that the detail is not swamped. Paint the face first: the base tone of the skin, shadows into the recesses, highlights on the forehead, the nose and the cheekbones, and only at the very end the eyes. Build the textiles on the contrast of a base color and glazes, and bring out the fur and the surface of the creature with a dry brush or a thin wash. Leave the weathering and the dust until the very end and mount the figure on the base.
