A resin casting of the fantasy character Kira on a creature called a Landstrider in 1:24 scale. Casting into silicone molds captures finer surfaces than injection-molded plastic, so the features of the face, the folds of cloth and the texture of the fur stay legible on the figure. The package is not a finished model: it is supplied unassembled and unpainted and counts on a modeler who can handle resin as well as painting with a brush.
With figures, 1:24 scale is among the collector sizes where the eyes and smooth transitions of skin can still be painted, but the figure is no longer so tiny that the detail is lost. A mounted subject gives the finished piece height and looks good on a base of its own.
Start by washing the parts in lukewarm soapy water, so that any mold release residue disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and finish the sanding wet and with a respirator, as resin dust should not be inhaled. The larger parts, above all the legs of the creature and the join of the rider to the saddle, are sensibly strengthened by pinning them on a piece of wire and gluing them with cyanoacrylate glue; then fill the gaps with two-part filler. It is practical to split the assembly into subassemblies and paint them separately while the places between the rider and the creature are still accessible. After a thin primer, start with the face: the base tone of the skin, shadows, highlights and finally the eyes. Draw the fur and the surface of the creature out with a dry brush, build the textiles with glazes and unify the finished figure with a fine wash and some dusting of the lower parts.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and primer are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
