Grumman A-6A Intruder in 1:100 scale is a plastic kit from the Japanese manufacturer Tamiya in the Combat Plane series — a compact model of the carrier attack aircraft with the option of building it standing or in flight.

An injection-molded plastic kit from the Japanese manufacturer Tamiya in the small Combat Plane series in 1:100 scale. The model is of a size appropriate to the scale, so it can be built in one or two evenings, and yet it captures the characteristic shape of the aircraft from the bulky nose section to the slender wing. The set offers the choice of building the aircraft standing on its landing gear or in flight with the landing gear retracted, and it contains parts for external stores. The finished model is roughly 164 mm long.
The A-6 Intruder was a carrier attack aircraft of the US Navy, brought into service in 1963. The crew of two sat side by side, two turbojet engines provided the power, and the whole point of the machine was the ability to hit a target in bad weather and at night, that is, at times when conventional day attack aircraft could not fly. The bulky nose with the navigation and targeting equipment and the large carrying capacity of the stations matched that. The A-6A version was the first production form of the type, and its service took it above all over Southeast Asia.
The small scale forgives less than it seems: sand the joints of the fuselage halves and the leading edges of the wing carefully, and restore the engraved lines afterwards, otherwise the seams will stand out once the paint is on. Use liquid cement for plastic applied with a fine brush so that it does not run onto the surfaces. Spray the model with a primer before painting, and only then apply the classic two-tone naval combination of a light underside and gray upper surfaces. Prepare a gloss intermediate coat for the decals so that they do not silver, and fix the result with a matte or semi-gloss varnish. In this scale it is enough to bring out the cockpit with a dark wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
