Zebrano extends its small line of French equipment with a variant seldom seen in display cases: the AHR truck chassis adapted for feeding a unit. The resin castings are fine and their preparation differs from work with injected plastic, which is why the set belongs in more experienced hands.

A kitchen as part of a combat formation

An army does not live on ammunition alone, and any longer operation stands or falls on whether it has something to eat. Field kitchens therefore belonged to the fixed equipment of rear-area columns and their characteristic silhouette with a chimney appears in shots from every front. The Renault AHR chassis with a load capacity of around five tons was strong enough for such a body, and the French army was introducing it shortly before 1940. These vehicles too went on in service on the German side after the defeat of France.

How to approach the model

First wash the castings and dry them, and only then start separating them. Seat the coppers and the chimney only after the chassis is sprayed, so that they do not have to be moved during the work. A kitchen positively invites patina: a sooty chimney, greasy smears around the coppers and mud on the wheels will make a rewarding story about the life of a rear-area unit out of a small model.
