A resin wing conversion for a Boeing 747SP model in 1:144 scale. It replaces the simplified parts of a plastic kit with high-lift devices in the fully extended position, so the model can be built in the form the aircraft takes on approach to landing. It is not a kit of an airplane but a detail accessory for a more advanced build.
The Boeing 747SP was a special offshoot of the first generation of wide-body four-engine Boeing 747s. It came about by shortening the fuselage, which, with the original tank capacity kept, pushed the range well beyond the possibilities of the production machines of the day and made it possible to connect very distant destinations without a stop. The shorter fuselage called for enlarged tail surfaces, so the silhouette of the aircraft is unmistakable. Only a small series was built and today it is among the most sought-after subjects for collectors of airliner models. The extended devices of the massive 747 wing are at the same time one of the most striking features that can be done on a model in 1:144.
Before the build, wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw, level the surfaces on abrasive paper laid on a flat board and sand with breathing protection, best of all wet. The trailing section of the wing is cut away from the kit - it pays to mark the cut with a pencil, try the part dry and cut in small steps. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and the gel version gives more time for aligning a part. Once it has cured, apply a primer and fill any seams. The inner surfaces of the flap tracks on airliners tend to be light and the underside of the wing usually carries a different shade from the upper surfaces, so plan the order of painting in advance.
This is an accessory set, not a stand-alone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
