13mm Turnbuckles is a set of modeling turnbuckles 13 mm long. On a real aircraft a turnbuckle is the connector used to tension a bracing wire or cable; on a model it is there to make the bracing between the wings, the struts and the tail surfaces look faithful and to let it be genuinely tensioned. It is an accessory for a model, not a kit.
The figure of 13 mm is the size of the part, not a scale. Turnbuckles are not tied to one scale: the same length will serve in several scales, according to the size and the span of the subject. Check the number of pieces in the package and the material on the packaging.
The turnbuckles are fitted into pre-drilled holes in the wing, the fuselage or a strut. Drill the hole with a micro drill slightly smaller than the diameter of the eye, so that the part holds on its own. The bracing itself is made of stretched monofilament or of fine steel cable, which is threaded through the turnbuckle and secured with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue applied on the tip of a wire; use as little glue as possible, so that it does not run over the finish. Do the seating and the final tensioning only after the paint has dried, because finished rigging is hard to paint over. A light pass in a dark shade evens out the metallic look.
The package contains turnbuckles. The model, the monofilament, the glue and the paints are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
