Nuts with a bolt shank in the 1.2 mm size are an add-on set for models of vehicles. They imitate a nut done up on a bolt passed through and are fitted into a drilled hole in place of a molded detail.

An add-on set of small parts for models of military and civilian vehicles. It is not a kit or a model. What is special about this type is that the part imitates not just a nut but a nut with a length of projecting shank, that is a joint where the bolt passes through the material and comes out on the other side.
A projecting shank is precisely the part an injection mold cannot render truly. Either it is missing altogether, or all that is left of it is a faint stub merging into the nut. A production part therefore looks like a nut laid on a surface, not like a nut done up on a real bolt. A separately fitted part holds the difference between the nut and the shank even under paint, when shallow relief is the first thing to be lost.
Cut the original detail off flat with a scalpel and sand the surface over. Prick the center with a point and drill the hole with a micro drill in a hand holder, choosing the diameter by the lower part of the part. Set the part in with tweezers so that the nut seats over its whole mating surface, and secure it with the slightest drop of cyanoacrylate glue from the tip of a wire. Drill the hole rather shallower and deepen it if need be, rather than sinking the part too far.
Choose the size according to the scale of the model, not according to what happens to be at hand. In this range the designation 1.2 mm fits the larger end, roughly between 1:48 and 1:35. On a joint with a shank fidelity of size matters doubly, because a part that is too large begins to look like an engineering feature of its own and not like a fastener.
