The masking set Peewit 1:72 DFS Olympia is an accessory for building a model of the unpowered sailplane - it helps to spray a cleanly bounded canopy and sharp color edges.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a kit, but an accessory for the build. The set contains painting masks for a model of the DFS Olympia sailplane in 1:72 scale. They are stuck on before painting and taken off once the paint has dried, so the boundary between the glazing and the structure stays sharp. On sailplanes this shows markedly: the model has few broken-up surfaces, and all the more visible is every badly placed edge of paint.
The DFS Olympia is a single-seat unpowered sailplane from the end of the 1930s, designed as a standard type for competition soaring. In construction it is a classic wooden glider with fabric covering, a slender wing of large span and a narrow fuselage. The type proved exceptionally long-lived - after the war it was built in derived forms in several European countries and long belonged to the basic equipment of gliding clubs. Modelers appreciate its clean shapes and the wide range of color schemes, from civilian registrations to club machines.
Degrease the surface and let the paint cure. Lay the mask on and press it down all the way around with a blunt point; on rounded canopies work in small sections, so the mask does not lift anywhere. Spray thinly, in two or three coats. The light schemes of sailplanes are less forgiving than dark camouflage, so it pays to lay down an even base first and only then the color. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has flashed off, pulling at an angle to the side.
The package contains masks only. The model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
