An injection-molded plastic kit of the Honda CBR 1100XX road motorcycle in 1:12 scale. The large scale allows the frame, the engine and the wheel suspension to be worked through, so the finished model is not just a faired shell. The set belongs to the classic Tamiya motorcycle range.
The CBR 1100XX Super Blackbird arrived in the second half of the nineteen nineties as a machine meant to join high cruising speed with usability over long distances. The power came from a liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine, the classic layout of Japanese road machines, mounted transversely in the frame. The whole front and the sides were covered by an aerodynamic fairing, which reduced drag and at the same time sheltered the rider. It was precisely the combination of top speed and comfort that gave the motorcycle a reputation it holds to this day.
Finish and paint the frame and the engine before you start on the fairing, because you will not reach them later. Do not dip the chrome-plated parts in thinner and do not glue them with cyanoacrylate, which leaves dull marks on them. A gloss finish on the bodywork rests on a smooth surface, so sand the joints carefully and lay down a gloss coat before the decals. The wheel spokes and the brake discs take well to being picked out with a dark wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
