Flowering meadow, poppies, a Model Scene grass mat

A Model Scene mat with the motif of a meadow with poppies. It is not a kit or an object of a scene in its own right but a vegetation material to be applied: both the grass growth and the flowering poppies are finished on a carrier layer, and the modeler only cuts them to the shape of the terrain and glues them onto the base.

Why poppies in particular

The red-flowering poppy is one of the few elements that can bring an otherwise monotonous grassy area to life at once. A sharp color accent in a green area draws the eye and at the same time anchors the scene in scale: small flowers tell the viewer subconsciously how large the growth is. That is exactly why a poppy meadow is widely used as a base under individual figures and under equipment, where bare grass would look empty.

How to work with the mat

• First lay the sheet loosely on the terrain, draw round it and cut it out with a margin.
• It is glued with a PVA (white) glue or a glue for scenery; weight it down until it dries.
• Tear the edge and thin it out with your fingers, so that the growth passes into its surroundings without a visible line.
• Be sparing with the color accent: a few islands of poppies look better than a continuous red area.

Who it is for

For builders of dioramas and vignettes, for model railways and for figure painters and tabletop gamers who need a striking but quickly worked growth for a base.

This is a scenic material, not a kit. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
