The item is an accessory for building a model of a Ducati motorcycle in 1:12 scale, not the model itself. It belongs among accessories of the kind that covers chains, forks and brake discs, that is the parts with which the most simplified assemblies of motorcycle models are replaced. The form which the name designates as HM Replica is the naming of a variant of the real subject. Check the extent of the set and which part it contains on the box and in the manufacturer's instructions.

Why replacements pay off on motorcycles

A motorcycle model has no bodywork under which anything could be hidden. The frame, the drivetrain and the brakes are visible from every side and at 1:12 the viewer has them literally in front of his eyes. It is exactly here that injection-molded plastic runs into its limits: a chain made in one piece has its links fused together, a disc has no lightening holes right through, and the legs of a fork are rarely perfectly round. A replacement part pushes those limits and the difference is visible on a finished model without a magnifier.

Building tips

• lay the part on dry before you cut anything off the kit
• rather widen the seatings and pins carefully than force the part in
• choose a suitable glue according to the material of the part and follow the manufacturer's instructions
• paint small faces before assembly, as a brush will not reach them once glued
• leave metal-looking surfaces rather matte, as a high gloss looks artificial at this scale
• work over a surface with a rim, so that a small part is not lost
