About product

Learjet 35A in 1:72 scale, the 1982 form

A kit of a small twin-engine jet aircraft in 1:72 scale from Sova Model. The package is a boxing related to its use in the South Atlantic conflict of 1982; check the number of color schemes on the box. In 1:72 scale it is a small model that fits even into a crowded display case and is at the same time rewarding in color — civil airframes in military service tend to wear unusual combinations of finishes and markings.

The real subject

The Learjet 35A is derived from the typical business jet layout with a low-set wing, engines on the sides of the rear fuselage and a high-mounted horizontal tail surface. It was precisely the combination of high cruising speed, great range and small size that made it a favorite tool outside civil operations too — military users employed it for fast liaison flights, navigation tasks and reconnaissance, because putting a small fast machine into these roles was more economical and more flexible than using a combat aircraft. This boxing is tied to that very way of using it.

Building and painting tips

On small jet aircraft it is the work on the fuselage and the glazing that tells most: the cockpit here is short and lies right on the line of sight. Glue the fuselage in sections, keep checking and sanding the joints and rescribe the engraving. Dry-fit the engine nacelles on the rear — on pod-mounted nacelles an inaccuracy shows at first glance. Consider whether to build the model with its nose supported; small machines with rear-mounted engines have their center of gravity far to the rear and a finished model readily sits down on its tail, so it pays to add weight to the nose in advance. Glossy civil finishes call for a perfectly smooth base, so expect a primer and a fine rub-down. Spray gloss varnish under the decals.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of small jet aircraft in 1:72 scale
  • Anyone interested in civil airframes in military service
  • Modelers looking for a smaller but out-of-the-ordinary project
  • Those who like glossy finishes and work with a smooth surface

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The package is a boxing related to its use in 1982. Check the particular schemes and their number on the box.

On aircraft with rear-mounted engines the center of gravity tends to be at the rear, so it pays to add weight to the nose before closing the fuselage. Otherwise the model may sit down on its tail.

The model is small, but smooth glossy surfaces are unforgiving of imperfect joints. If you have the patience for sanding and primer, you will manage it.

The same maker offers several forms of the Learjet in 1:72 scale. They differ in what the name states.
