About product

1:144 A7V German tank WWI — a small-series Brengun kit

A model of the German A7V armored vehicle of the World War I period in 1:144 scale. It is a small-series kit from the Czech brand Brengun, that is, a product in a smaller run than the big injection-molded plastic brands offer. The 1:144 scale means that the finished vehicle is only a few centimeters long — the model is therefore suited to a display case with aircraft and hardware in the same scale or to a small diorama scene.

The real subject

The A7V, by its full designation Sturmpanzerwagen A7V, was the first German armored fighting vehicle deployed in World War I. In design terms it was a tall armored box built on a tracked chassis derived from an agricultural tractor and powered by a pair of gasoline engines. The vehicle had a numerous crew, a frontal gun and several machine gun positions around the perimeter of the hull. Only a small series of machines was built, and they got into the fighting in 1918; their best known appearance was the first clash of armored vehicles against armored vehicles in history. The tall silhouette and the short overhang of the tracks in front of the hull made the A7V a vehicle with a limited ability to cross trenches.

Building and painting tips

On the parts, first check the casting blocks and the remains of the mold and remove them carefully with a saw or a cutter; sanding should be done wet and with respiratory protection. If the parts are of resin, wash them before gluing in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the release agent is removed, and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Finish and paint the chassis and the tracks before you fit the hull. Start the painting with a primer and only then apply the covering shade. In 1:144 scale restrained weathering looks best — a fine dark wash in the recessed lines and a light dust pigment on the lower parts are enough, as strong effects would overpower a tiny model.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of World War I hardware who collect in a uniform small scale
  • Modelers building small display groups and dioramas in 1:144 scale
  • Builders who do not mind cleaning parts up by hand on a small-series kit
  • Anyone interested in an untraditional subject that appears only rarely

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

In 1:144 scale the vehicle measures only a few centimeters.

Rather not. Small-series kits in a tiny scale have a thicker casting system and are harder to clean up than ordinary injection-molded plastic. It takes patience and a sharp tool.

If the parts are of resin, ordinary plastic cement will not take — use cyanoacrylate glue. Please check the material against the package.

The make-up of the parts is given in the instructions enclosed with the package.
