About product

An-225 Mriya engines in 1:144 scale

The set brings 3D printed engine nacelles for a model of the six-engine cargo aircraft Antonov An-225 Mriya. Printing manages fine shapes which are hard to make in injection-molded plastic, above all the thin edges of the intakes and the division of the nacelles. It is an accessory for a plastic model in 1:144 scale; the model of the aircraft itself is not part of the set.

The real subject

The Antonov An-225 was the largest aircraft ever to take off. It came into being in a single completed example at the turn of the nineteen-eighties and nineteen-nineties, originally to carry the Buran space shuttle and the parts of a launch vehicle on the back of the fuselage. It was powered by six D-18T turbofan engines slung under the wing, and in span and in payload it had no rival. After the end of the space program it flew commercially for decades with oversize loads that would not fit into any other aircraft. The single completed machine was destroyed in 2022.

Fitting and painting tips

Wash the printed parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry thoroughly. Cut the print supports away with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw and level the marks left by them with fine sandpaper, best wet and with your airways protected. They are joined with cyanoacrylate glue; ordinary cement for plastic does not work here. Before painting, lay on a thin layer of primer, which at the same time reveals small steps left by the printing. The metal surfaces of the nacelles stand out in metallic shades, and you will draw out the differences between the panels with a fine wash.

Who the set is for

  • builders of large airliners and cargo aircraft in 1:144 scale
  • modelers bothered by the simplified engines on the base model
  • more experienced builders used to printed and resin parts
  • collectors of aircraft of Soviet and Ukrainian design

FAQ

No. The set holds only the engine nacelles. The model of the An-225 in 1:144 scale has to be at hand; the set is fitted into it.

Wash them in lukewarm water with detergent, cut the print supports away and level the surfaces with fine sandpaper. Then lay on a primer.

Cyanoacrylate glue. Modeling cement for plastic does not dissolve printed resin, so no joint will form.

Six D-18T turbofan engines slung under the wing. It was the largest aircraft ever to take off and it stayed in a single completed example.
