About product

de Havilland Mosquito FB.VI Commonwealth Service in 1:144 scale from Mark I Models

An injection-molded plastic kit of the twin-engine Mosquito fighter-bomber in the FB.VI configuration, worked out in 1:144 scale. Mark I Models is a Czech manufacturer that has long specialized in the small scale and uses short-run molds. The boxing focuses on machines in the colors of the air forces of Commonwealth countries. Check the actual package contents and the number of schemes offered on the box.

The real subject

The Mosquito was exceptional in that its airframe was built largely of wood, which saved strategic metals and allowed furniture workshops to be brought into production. Power came from a pair of Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engines, and the crew consisted of a pilot and a navigator sitting side by side. The FB.VI version was a fighter-bomber with fixed armament in the nose and in the fuselage and with the ability to carry bombs or unguided rockets under the wing. It was the FB.VI that became the most numerously produced variant of the whole type, and after the war it served with air forces outside Britain as well, including Commonwealth countries.

Building and painting tips

In 1:144 scale it is mainly the cleanliness of the surface that decides the result. Cut the parts from the sprue with a sharp scalpel or an etched saw, not with nippers, and sand the sprue nubs down with fine sandpaper. The cockpit glazing is small on a model this size and fogs easily, so glue it with a cement meant for clear parts or with clear varnish, never with ordinary solvent cement. It is practical to mask the cockpit with masking fluid. Apply the paint with an airbrush in very thin coats and at markedly reduced pressure, because a heavy coat at this scale immediately floods the fine engraved panel lines. Before the decals, overcoat the model with gloss varnish, use a decal fixer once it has dried and finally unify the surface with matte or satin varnish.

Who the model is for

  • Modelers who collect British aircraft of the Second World War in a single display case
  • Anyone interested in the post-war service of the Mosquito with the air forces of Commonwealth countries
  • Builders with experience of the small scale and short-run molds
  • Collectors who want to fit as many types as possible into a limited space

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The Mosquito was a twin-engine machine of medium size, so the finished model stays compact and fits even a small display case. Check the exact dimensions on the box.

Rather for builders with some practice. A small scale means small parts and less tolerance for excess glue and thick coats of paint, so a steady hand and fine tools come in handy.

It is the fighter-bomber version with fixed onboard armament and the ability to carry bombs or rockets. It was the most numerously produced variant of the Mosquito.

The boxing is thematically focused on machines in the service of Commonwealth countries. Check the number of schemes and the package contents on the box.
