Manzonia 3 x 3 x 1000 mm is a pack of ten square-section lengths of dark hardwood — material for railings, gratings, struts and edge strips on wooden ship models.

The pack holds ten strips with a square section of 3 x 3 mm and a length of one meter. A square profile differs from flat planking strips in purpose: it is not laid onto a surface but makes up structure and edges. Manzonia is an African hardwood with a dark tone and a fine, dense grain, so finished parts look of one piece even after being sanded down to small dimensions.
A square length holds well in the fingers and in a small vise, so repeated cuts of the same length can be made from it without trouble — set up a simple stop for that, or the dimensions will drift. Cut with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw; hardwood takes files and sanding sponges as well. To glue a structure together, use PVA wood glue, and super glue for quick joints; wipe excess glue off at once, because a dried stain will show under matte varnish. A few strokes with fine paper will round the sharp edges off and a part stops looking cut out. Sealing the surface with matte varnish, wax or oil is enough.
For builders of wooden ship models who need dark structural profiles rather than visible planking, and for modelers building to plans of their own, where square strips get used up on all sorts of things.
The strips are supplied in their natural state, unworked and without any surface finish. Glue, abrasives and varnish are not included in the package.
