About product

1:16 Pz.Kpfw. I — resin cooling pipe set (T-Rex Studio)

Cast resin parts that replace the pipework of the cooling circuit of the German Pz.Kpfw. I light tank in 1:16 scale. This is a typical detail that in a large scale decides the credibility of a model — the pipework is routed on the outside, so it is directly visible on the finished machine. This is not a kit of the vehicle but an accessory for an existing model. The set is intended for Takom kits.

Why resin and why this part in particular

Tubes and runs are the least rewarding shape for injection-molded plastic. Molds cannot make them with a faithful wall thickness and with free space around them, so they tend to be simplified and attached to their surroundings. Cast resin copes with the shape better — it holds a thin wall and a sharp bend. In 1:16 that shows immediately: every flattening, every imperfect transition is visible from close up. The set therefore does not deal with the whole model but with one particular area that is otherwise hardest to make up by your own work.

Building tips

Wash the parts in warm water with detergent and let them dry, so that no mold release agent is left on them. Cut the casting blocks off, do not snap them — thin castings of tubes break easily. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue; plastic cement has no effect on resin. When gluing thin parts the gel version is useful, as it leaves time to line things up. Before gluing, try the parts dry and plan the order so that you can still reach the pipework with a brush. Start painting with a primer coat.

Who the set is for

  • For builders of models in large scales who are fine-tuning detail
  • For modelers with experience of resin and cyanoacrylate glue
  • For those building the model into a diorama or with the engine bay open
  • For advanced modelers for whom simplified pipework from the mold is not enough

The accessory is supplied unpainted and without the base kit. Glue and paints are not included in the package. Check before ordering that it matches your particular kit.

FAQ

No. It deals only with the cooling pipework. You need to own the base model of the vehicle in 1:16 scale.

They are, which is why the casting blocks should be cut off with a saw rather than snapped. When gluing, gel cyanoacrylate helps, as it gives time to line things up.

Yes. Wash them in warm water with detergent because of the mold release agent and apply a primer, otherwise the finish will not hold.

It is intended for Takom kits.
