A photo-etched instrument panel for the MiG-23 model in 1:72 scale. According to its designation it is cut for the Hasegawa kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The MiG-23 is a single-seat fighter with a variable-sweep wing that is set in flight according to the flight regime. It was built in many versions and served with a number of air forces, which makes it a rewarding subject even in a small scale. The cockpit is set into a narrow nose and the instrument panel is the first thing visible under an open canopy.
In 1:72 kits the instrument panel is usually just a flat area with shallow relief, because plastic cannot hold the fine drawing of the dials at that size. A photo-etched part made of thin metal has the outlines of the instruments sharp, and once built the cockpit does not look empty. The designation gives the Hasegawa kit; with a different kit, check the fit dry beforehand. The manufacturer's instructions give the exact contents of the package and the fitting procedure.
The panel is fitted before the fuselage halves are glued together, so leave the dry fit for the very start of the build. The plastic part underneath usually has to be thinned or leveled, otherwise the fuselage will not close. Cut the photo-etched part from the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface and file the remaining tab flush. The metal is not polystyrene and is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Before painting, wash and degrease it and start with a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
A photo-etched part is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
