A loose pigment colorant from the Aging Enamel Powder range of the U-STAR brand. The powder is applied to a finished model and changes the look of its surface without repainting. The underside of a model and the running gear

The most rewarding place for a pigment tends to be the lower part of a model. The running gear, the wheels, the tracks, the wheel arches and the lower edges of a fuselage are the most heavily soiled in reality, and at the same time they are surfaces where it does not matter if the application is not perfectly even. For the modeler that is ideal practice ground: a mistake does not show here as it would on the upper surface of a wing or on a hood.

So work on these places while the model is still in pieces. Landing gear legs, wheels and the underside of a hull are far easier to weather separately than after gluing, when a brush cannot reach them. Apply the pigment from the bottom upwards and let it fade out; a sharp horizontal boundary between the weathered and the clean part gives a model away more than too little dirt does.

• best done before final assembly, while the parts are accessible
• work the application from the bottom upwards and let it fade with no sharp boundary
• applied dry with a soft brush, best on a matte base

Who the pigment is for

For builders of vehicles, aircraft and civilian models who want to bring the lower parts into keeping with their surroundings and rid them of a factory look. Thanks to its position on a model it is also a good place to get the hang of the technique before you use it on exposed surfaces.

A loose powder: do not inhale it, work over a surface and out of a draft, and wash your hands after work. Keep out of the reach of children.
