A metallic duralumin shade from the AMMO of Mig Jimenez range for the bare metal surfaces of aircraft and vehicle models.
Responsibility details are not available.
Duralumin is an aluminum alloy that aircraft airframes were built from, and its bare surface has a cool silvery tone with a soft sheen. The Duraluminium shade imitates that look. It suits the unpainted surfaces of aircraft, panels and covers, landing gear parts and the metal parts of vehicles, wherever it should be clear that this is sheet metal and not sprayed gray.
Metallic paints only come into their own on a smooth base: scratches, marks left by abrasive paper and matte areas kill the metallic look. Smooth the surface first, therefore, and cover it with a smooth primer. Apply thin coats and let them set. Choose the thinner and the thinning ratio according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging, and use the thinner intended for this line. Stir the bottle thoroughly before work, because the metallic pigment settles at the bottom.
The individual panels can be told apart by covering some of them with another metallic shade or by applying the same shade only lightly; it is precisely the unevenness that makes a metal airframe convincing. The painted surface rubs off easily, so handle the model through a sheet of paper or through a glove. A matte clear coat suppresses the metallic look, so choose a gloss or semi-gloss finish instead.
It will be appreciated by builders of silver aircraft who need to grade the shades of the metal skin, and by vehicle modelers concerned with small metal parts. The paint is supplied on its own; thinner, brushes and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
