The real subject

Toyo is a Japanese tire maker, and the Proxes R1R designation belongs among its sporting summer tires for fast road cars. On modified cars it is the usual choice where a car is to run on the road but also to manage a track day. The 19-inch size corresponds in 1:18 scale to a rim roughly twenty-seven millimeters across.

What is in the box

In the package there are four tires in rubber, that is a set for a whole car. Rubber has the advantage over the hard plastic from a kit: the surface is matte and slightly elastic, so the tire looks like rubber and not like a painted part. They go onto 19-inch wheels in 1:18 scale.

Building and painting tips

Before fitting, wipe the tires with degreaser, as there tends to be an oily film from production on the surface. Rely mainly on the shaped seating on the rim, because glues hold substantially worse on rubber than on plastic. Paints crack on an elastic surface, so suggest the lettering on the sidewall with drybrushing instead, or leave it be. If you want to suggest the load of a car, sand the sidewall only lightly and place the flat spot on the side that seats against the ground. Do not store a finished model so that the tires lie for long directly on a painted surface of the base; rubber can mark the paint in time.
