A display base for a model of the Japanese battlecruiser Kongo in her 1914 state in 1:700 scale by the manufacturer Kajika. It is not a model of the ship but an accessory for displaying her.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a kit of the ship but a separate display base on which a finished model is presented. Kajika offers it within a family of accessories for its model of the battlecruiser Kongo in her 1914 state, for which it also issues photo-etched parts, a wooden deck, a mask set and a nameplate.
Kongo was the lead ship of the Japanese class of fast battlecruisers of the same name. She alone of them was built in Great Britain, while the sister units were then built in Japan to modified plans. The main armament consisted of eight guns of 356 mm in four twin turrets, complemented by a battery of medium guns in casemates. The 1914 state corresponds to the ship shortly after completion, that is with her original silhouette with three funnels and a low superstructure, which the later reconstructions changed completely.
It is sensible to prepare the display base alongside the model, not only at the end. Do any surface treatment before you seat the model on it, so that dust from sanding does not reach the finished ship. The model is usually first set on dry, the fit is checked and only then is it fixed. Protect the finished assembly from dust, which with ships in 1:700 scale settles above all in the rigging and on the fine deck fittings.
