A targeted detailing set from the Japanese brand Top Studio for the cockpit of a model of the McLaren MP4/4 formula car in 1:20 scale. Unlike the extensive sets of the Super range, it concentrates on a single place on the model, the pilot's space. It is not a kit of the car, and the base plastic model is bought by the modeler separately.
Why the cockpit in particular: on a single-seater it is open and the viewer looks straight down into it. The instrument panel, the steering wheel, the belts, the levers and the inner walls of the tub are therefore the most closely watched place on a finished model, and at the same time the place where production plastic offers only a suggested relief.
The McLaren MP4/4 was a Formula 1 car of the 1988 season. The cockpit of the single-seaters of the day was markedly simpler and more open than today, so much more of the inner arrangement is visible on a model than on modern cars with high sides.
Finish the cockpit completely before you close the model up with the body, as afterward you will not get inside. Paint and weather the tub beforehand and fit the small elements once the paint has cured. Use super glue in a minimal amount, applied with the tip of a wire, so that an excess does not run onto a visible surface. On the dark surfaces of the cockpit, drybrushing with a lighter shade works well and brings out the edges and the structure.
This is not a kit of a model. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
