An accessory from the Japanese brand Top Studio to a plastic kit of the McLaren MP4/5B Formula 1 car in 1:20 scale. It is not a model of the car, but a set of photo-etched parts with which the modeler replaces those parts of the kit whose thinness and fineness cannot be molded from plastic. Typically these are thin sheets, grilles, mountings and fasteners.
The real subject
The McLaren MP4/5B was the Formula 1 car of the McLaren team for the 1990 season, powered by a Honda ten-cylinder engine. It followed on from the successful type of the previous season and was among the technically most advanced cars of its day. In 1:20 scale it is a popular subject on which detailing pays off, because the model is usually built with the body exposed.
Remove the photo-etched parts from the fret with a sharp scalpel or photo-etch scissors against a hard base, and never tear them out. Deburr the remainder of the tab after nipping with a fine file or a sanding sponge, otherwise the part will not seat. It is bent on the edge of a bending tool or between two blades, always along the engraved groove and rather in two stages than with one sharp movement. It is bonded with super glue in a minimal amount. A primer for metal is needed before painting, as without it the paint will not hold on a smooth brass surface.
