This unassembled and unpainted plastic kit in 1:200 scale captures the sailing ship Barracuda, one of the iconic ships of the Japanese animated series Conan, the Boy in Future. The kit is made by the Japanese company Aoshima. The model can be built with the full hull on a base, or in a waterline version, that is with the hull cut at the waterline. The parts are molded in white, brown, beige and black, and the package holds a base, a block and thread for the rigging and, on top of that, a flying machine and a robonoid in the same scale.
The Barracuda is a three-masted sailing ship from a classic Japanese animated series of the late 1970s, set in a world after a worldwide catastrophe. In the story the ship serves as a mobile base and as a means of transport, and its shapes combine a classic sailing ship with technical items. The kit keeps to the form the ship has in the series, including the additional machines that are part of its equipment.
Decide right at the start whether you are building the full hull or the waterline version — it affects the assembly of the lower parts. Fill and sand the hull, so that the joints are not visible under the paint. The wooden surfaces of the deck and the sides come out well if you apply a thin brown wash over the base shade and then bring the edges out with a drybrush. Glue the masts and the yards on only once they have been painted, so that the finish is not damaged in handling. Tension the rigging from the thread supplied gradually and symmetrically; the thread can be darkened slightly, so that it does not look too new. The small accessories in the same scale call for a sharp knife, tweezers and patience.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
