A sizeable injection-molded plastic kit of the American destroyer USS Fletcher (DD-445) in 1:200 scale from Trumpeter. Thanks to the large scale it is a richly subdivided model with a full hull, photo-etched parts, a metal anchor chain and a stand. The model carries its main gun armament in five turrets and extensive superstructures. Check the exact package contents against the enclosed instructions.
USS Fletcher (DD-445) was the lead ship of the destroyer class of the same name — the most numerous and exceptionally successful class of American destroyers of the Second World War. The Fletchers were marked by a combination of strong gun and torpedo armament, long range and good toughness. Over 170 of them were built and they served not only in the Second World War but also in the Korean War and afterwards in the fleets of many allies. They were deployed above all in the Pacific for escorting formations, for anti-aircraft defense and for fighting surface and submarine targets.
The large scale allows detailed work — bond the fine photo-etched parts (railings, radars) with super glue and fit the metal chain at the end. Paint the hull with an airbrush in the shades of American naval camouflage (the Measure schemes, for example), and bring out the deck and the superstructures with a wash and fine traces of service and rust. Because of the size of the model it pays to paint in subassemblies and to glue them together only once they are painted. It is best to display the model on the stand that is included in the package.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
