Reskit has prepared an add-on for modelers who want accurately shaped and clearly distinguished armament under the wings of their aircraft. The set belongs to the range of external stores in 1:32 scale and according to its name it is conceived as six bombs. On its own it does not make an airplane model; it is meant as an add-on to a basic kit.
The M117 is an American general-purpose aircraft bomb of the 750 pound weight class, introduced after the Second World War and used for several decades. The M117R version differs from the basic configuration in its retarding fin, which changes the behavior of the bomb after release from the carrier. It is precisely the fin that is the main distinguishing feature a modeler looks at: the MAU-91 designation belongs to this retarded variant, while other configurations carried fins of a different shape. The name of the set lists the typical range of carriers, among others the F-105, F-111, A-4, F-4, F-5, F-104, F-100, A-1 Skyraider, B-52 and Canberra.
Separate the parts slowly with a sharp knife or a fine saw, so as to avoid breaking off the thin surfaces of the fin. Sand the marks left by separating, degrease the surfaces before painting and spray them with a base coat so that the shade holds. Super glue proves itself, because ordinary cement for polystyrene does not join accessory parts reliably. Choose the color scheme according to the era and the service of the particular machine; at the end a weak wash and fine emphasis on the edges help. Then hang the bombs on the pylons matching the chosen configuration of the aircraft.
