A set of masks for a model, not a kit. Masking sets for military equipment serve two purposes during painting: keeping clean the surfaces that are not to receive paint, that is, the cab glazing, the windows and the lenses of the optics, the lights and the searchlights, and on multicolor schemes running the transition between shades so that it comes out repeatably and symmetrically. The set is designated in its name as double-sided; with glazing that as a rule means masking from the outside and the inside, so that the clear part is not fouled with paint on either side.
The Cougar is an American wheeled armored vehicle of the MRAP category, that is, of machines built above all against mines and booby traps. Its characteristic feature is a hull with a sharply angled floor in the shape of the letter V, which deflects the blast wave of an explosion to the sides, and a high-set compartment for the crew. The four-wheeled form is shorter and more agile than the six-wheeled variant, and it was used both for transport and as a basis for reconnaissance and engineer bodies. For its class the cab has a large area of thick glazing and a great many external lights, and that is exactly the most demanding spot during painting.
The masks are stuck onto a dried primer coat before painting. Degrease the base and rid it of dust. Lift the piece off with pointed tweezers, seat it and press the edges down thoroughly with a toothpick, or the paint will creep under. Spray at a right angle and in thin coats. Take the mask off while the paint is only tacky; the lip tears on a cured coat. Mask the clear parts while they can still be handled freely, ideally before they are set into the body.
