Abrasive belts in 80 grit. A coarse abrasive for quickly leveling larger excesses, followed by a finer grit.

Abrasive belts in 80 grit for a belt sanding tool. 80 grit is coarse: it removes material quickly and is meant for the first, leveling phase of work. It is fitted where a marked excess has to be knocked down, an uneven joint leveled or putty that stands above the surface sanded away.
Sand lightly and let the abrasive do the work rather than the pressure of your hand; under pressure a coarse grain bites in and a deep furrow is left in the surface. Work in short strokes and check as you go how much material has already gone, because with a coarse grit it happens faster than one expects. Dust off the belt in the meantime, as a clogged belt stops sanding and starts to polish and heat the surface.
It saves most work where a fine abrasive would take a long time: on hardened putty, on a wide joint between two fuselage halves or on a surface that has to be leveled flat. On fine relief and on thin edges, by contrast, a coarse abrasive is risky, because the detail disappears before you notice.
After 80 grit always continue with a finer abrasive and work through the steps, otherwise the furrows left by coarse sanding will show through the paint. Before spraying, wash and degrease the surface and let it dry perfectly so that no sanding dust is left on it.
For modelers who work with putty, with larger overhangs or with reworking of parts and need fast removal. A coarse grit does not suit fine finishing of a surface; for that reach for higher numbers.
The sanding tool the belts are fitted to and other abrasives are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
