1:72 Westland Sea King HAR.3 / Mk.43 is a one-sided Art Scale painting mask for the glazing of a model of this rescue helicopter in 1:72 scale. The cut is based on the parts of the Airfix kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a model of a helicopter, but a set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the glazing of a model of the Westland Sea King in the HAR.3 and Mk.43 versions in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Art Scale. You stick the masks onto the clear part, they frame the individual windows, and you then spray the frames together with the fuselage. Cutting strips from masking tape falls away, and with the Sea King, whose glazing is divided into a large number of differently shaped panels, that means saving a whole evening of work. The cutouts match the parts of the Airfix kit the set is used with; with another manufacturer the shapes differ.
The one-sided version allows for masking from the outer side of the glazing. If you want to finish the frames from inside the cockpit as well, a double-sided variant of the same type is a separate item. The express fit designation is used by the manufacturer for masks cut exactly to the shape of the part. How many masks the sheet contains and whether it also deals with the wheels is given on the box of the set.
The Sea King is the British license version of the American Sikorsky SH-3, which Westland fitted with turboshaft engines of its own. The HAR.3 version served the Royal Air Force for search and rescue and became known for its striking yellow finish. The Mk.43 is the export rescue version delivered to Norway, where the machines covered an extensive coastline and the North Sea. Both versions have the same airframe and differ mainly in equipment and color scheme, which is why one sheet of masks can cover both.
First wash the clear part in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry completely, as grease from your fingers is the most common cause of lifting. Take the mask off with tweezers or a sharp knife, lay it in the middle of the panel and press it from the center out to the edges, so that no air stays under it. Press the edges down with a toothpick. Spray the paint in thin coats and take the mask off while the paint is freshly dried, as after several days the varnish peels off outside the frame too.
