Landing flaps for a 1:144 Airbus A300-600 model

This LACI set is intended for a model of the Airbus A300-600 airliner in 1:144 scale and lets you build it with the high-lift devices extended, that is, in landing configuration. It is not an aircraft model but an add-on: the matching section of the wing trailing edge is cut away from the plastic part and replaced by the parts from the set. The model then looks dynamic in the display case, as if it were descending onto the runway.

The real subject

The A300-600 is the modernized late version of the wide-body Airbus A300. It took over the two-crew flight deck and the tail surfaces from the smaller A310, received an aerodynamically refined rear fuselage and with it a larger cabin volume. It was powered by General Electric CF6-80C2 or Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines. The A300-600R version, with an additional trim tank in the tail surfaces, extended the range, and it was exactly this branch of the family that became the mainstay of cargo operators. The high-lift system of the wing is large and changes the silhouette of the aircraft markedly on approach.

Usage tips

Mark the cut in the plastic wing precisely first and keep a margin to the line, then finish the surface with a file. Dry-fit the parts repeatedly and watch the symmetry of both wing halves, best of all by looking from the front. Bond with super glue in small drops, because ordinary plastic cement may not hold the joint. Plan the painting in advance: the extended flaps expose surfaces that are hard to reach once the parts are glued, so spray them before you fix the assembly permanently. With airliners it is also worth sealing the decals with varnish, because every edge shows on a smooth gloss surface.
