A kit of the American M274 light platform vehicle, nicknamed the Mule, carrying a 106 mm recoilless gun. 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The M274, nicknamed the Mule, is an American light vehicle that came about as a mobile platform for infantry. It has no cab and no body: above four wheels there is only a frame with a flat load surface, the engine at the rear and a folding driver seat. The vehicle could also be controlled standing from the side, which helped in terrain where it was safer to walk beside the load than to sit on it. It carried ammunition, wounded and equipment where an ordinary truck could not get.
The weapon in the designation is of 106 mm caliber. A recoilless gun vents part of the propellant gases to the rear, so it passes no recoil to the mount and even a vehicle this small can carry it. The price for that is a conspicuous flash and blast behind the weapon, because of which the position had to be changed immediately after firing.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and the contents of the package and the order of assembly are given in the manufacturer instructions. Even in 1:48 scale the vehicle is small and you can see right into it, so it pays to clean and sand every edge of the frame and to paint in sections while the parts are still accessible. Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a short distance from the part and sand the remainder down; wash and degrease the parts before painting.
The kit is supplied. Paints, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
