Rotiform is a Californian wheel brand that made its name in the world of low-slung cars and shows of modified cars. The MLW pattern belongs to the mesh forms, where instead of a few wide spokes a dense grid makes up the area of the rim. Historically such a rim goes with cars of German production, but today builders fit it to anything from station wagons to sports coupes. It is exactly the density of the grid that makes the pattern a mark collectors connect with the brand at first sight.
A mesh pattern lives on depth. After the base color it pays to apply a thinned dark shade into the recesses and wipe the excess off, so that the grid visually separates from the surface. The outer lip of the rim can be set apart with a different tone; this two-color procedure is one the brand commonly uses on the real wheels. Mask only after complete drying, as fresh paint is easily torn away under the tape. A light base under a dark shade helps to keep the drawing readable even once it is finished.
