The rear spoiler of the M3 GT homologation coupe of 1995. A separate accessory for models of the E36 series coupe in 1:24.
Responsibility details are not available.
The M3 coupe of the E36 series was heading for endurance racing in the mid-1990s, but the rules of the GT class at the time required racing aerodynamics to be based on a car sold in series. In 1995 the Munich carmaker therefore introduced a limited edition called the M3 GT: a dark green finish, a modified inline-six, a split front splitter and a two-piece rear spoiler whose trailing edge could be set to several positions. Only a few hundred were built, and it was thanks to them that the same shapes were allowed to appear on the circuit. An ordinary coupe carried only an inconspicuous lip on the lid, so even a layman can tell the difference between the two versions at first glance.
The contents are a scale rendering of the rear spoiler as this edition carried it. It is seated from above on the trunk lid of an ordinary kit of the coupe. What decides the result is less the mounting itself than the angle at which the edge leaves the metal, so lay the part on without glue first and fix it only after checking it from the side and from behind. Any gap under the mating surface will be evened out by light sanding or by a thin strip of plastic.
The crisp edges will stand only a thin coat of paint, otherwise the profile rounds off and the part loses its lightness. A primer filler sprayed in two passes works well, with sanding with very fine paper between them and only then the covering shade. Cyanoacrylate glue completed with a drop of filler will manage the joint with the bodywork; under greater load a two-part epoxy compound will help. The kit of the car, paints and decals are not part of the delivery.
