A sheet of waterslide decals from the Czech publisher DK Decals for the large 1:24 scale. It is not a kit but replacement and additional markings for an already built model of the Hurricane Mk.IIC version in the guise of a night intruder. How many schemes the sheet offers and how large it is should be checked on the box.
The Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIC was the cannon-armed version of the famous British fighter: instead of a battery of machine guns it received four 20 mm cannons in the wing. It was precisely this armament that made it a good tool for night attack sorties, which were called intruder missions. Machines painted black flew over the occupied mainland in the dark, lay in wait near enemy airfields and attacked aircraft during takeoff and landing, when they are at their most vulnerable. Besides that they attacked transport and other ground targets. Night Hurricanes are therefore among the visually most striking variants of the type, and in 1:24 scale they come into their own.
In a large scale the decals are comfortably big, but all the more does every mistake show. Go over the surfaces under the markings with a gloss varnish so that no air is trapped under the film and no flat outline appears around the decal. Cut the decal out together with its backing, soak it in lukewarm water and slide it onto the model with a moistened brush. Rather settle large decals part by part and push the water and the air out with a soft cloth from the center toward the edges. A softener then pulls the film down onto the rivets and engraved lines. Once it has dried completely, varnish the whole model over with a flat coat - with a black night finish a flat surface is an essential part of the final impression.
